Outline of the Overseas Medical Intervention Workshop (3 day course)

A 3 day practical course designed to give you more options when you are days away from help. Travelling by foot or vehicle this course is designed with the lay person in mind. The course will be led by Dr Ross Anderson. The course is a must for small and large scale expedition members, expedition assistant leaders, field scientists and university staff who lead field work programmes overseas.

This is a three-day programme, day 1 & 2 being the units of the Outdoor First Aid course, day 3 is a practical workshop run by our Doctor to cover medical interventions and medication. We have extensive experience of working in Arctic, Tropical and Desert environments. For those that are overlanding by vehicle this course is also suitable.

This is an invasive course designed to give you more options when days away from help. Traveling on expedition by foot or by vehicle, this course is both practical and theoretical.

Course ethos
This course is designed to enhance your understanding and knowledge and give you plenty of hands on practical experience.
No prior knowledge or qualification is necessary as we start with the basics and move towards the techniques and understanding that enable you to make decisions and escalate interventions in the field.
Our principle remains "Advanced at the Basics" rather than basic at the advanced. For this reason, all invasive skill sessions will be led by our Doctor to ensure that you follow best practice and have plenty of opportunity to practice and gain confidence in the techniques.
By the end of the course you should feel confident in your ability and able to follow best practice guidelines.
An Outdoor First Aid course is a pre-requisite to Day 3.
